Interview Etiquette

So you land that big interview for the perfect job or internship, now what? Here are six tips to help you from the beginning to the end of the interview.

1) Be early! Allow yourself five to ten more minutes in travel time in case of traffic or a missed turn. Don’t arrive to the office any earlier than 30 minutes.

2) Be prepared. It is a good idea to bring another copy of your resume, an updated portfolio, the job description that you are applying for and questions to ask about the company.

3) Business Attire. Dress in business attire. If you do not know the dress code at the organization, it is a better to be over dressed rather than under dressed.

4) Electronics off. Turn your cell phone, black berry, pager, etc. off or leave them in the car. You will not be answering any phone calls during the interview anyways.

5) Smile! Be sure to be enthusiastic about the position during the interview.

5) Follow up. Send a thank you note following the interview. It’s a good idea to write the thank you letter and get it in the mail the same day as the interview.

Please keep coming back each week to check out the new topic of discussion. If you have any questions or if there is a specific story you’d like to share or a topic you’d like to see discussed, please feel free to contact Stacey Myers, Chapter President, at uoprssa@yahoo.com!
